Why does this web site exist?
Is this really FREE??
Yes.
How does this work?
CarPool2Camp.org uses the power of the internet to introduce fellow campers and organize carpools. Unlike other carpool web sites, CarPool2camp.org is a gated community restricted to the families of campers who live near each other and who are going to the same camp on the same day.
The key to the community is called a PoolPass® -- a unique code that is generated by CarPool2Camp.org and given to campers by the camps or by this web site when camps tell us to send a PoolPass® to their campers. With a PoolPass® you can find the other campers who live near you and who are going to the same camp on the same day. Without a PoolPass® you cannot get this information.
What does a PoolPass® look like?
A PoolPass® is a unique electronic key, nine characters long. You might receive a printed copy or you might receive it in an email from your camp or from the CarPool2Camp.org web site when your camp asks CarPool2Camp.org to invite you into the ride-sharing program.
Where does this work?
In the continental USA, Alaska and Hawaii. Maybe in Canada, soon.
Is this useful for day camps?
Yes. Day camps, overnight camps and schools can use the program.
We are a camp. Do we put information about our campers into this web site?
NO! Campers control their personal information. Period. All the camps need to do is give out the PoolPasses® to their campers. Camps have the option of printing and distributing the PoolPasses® or asking CarPool2Camp.org to send out the PoolPasses® via email to the campers that they want to invite into the ride-sharing program. Please see our terms to understand more about how we use the campers' email addresses.
We are camper families. Who might see our personal information?
The only information people can see is what YOU put on this web site. The only people who might see your information are camper families who live near you and who are going to the same camp on the same day. The information they might see might include your state, your zip code, your name and your email address. If you put in your full name, they can see this. If you put in only your first name, that's all they see. If you included your phone number they can see this, too. If you included a note they can see this, too. They can see your geographic location, but not your address - we use this to improve our geocoding, but there is no need to print your address, so we do not. After your camp travel date passes, your information expires and is removed from this web site. Please read our privacy policy and if you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
Can I get a PoolPass® directly from CarPool2Camp.org?
No, your camp controls the distribution of PoolPasses® - this helps camper families be sure that your fellow campers are, in fact, fellow campers.
I lost / forgot my PoolPass® - can you replace it?
Maybe. Go to the home page and put your email address in the lower box. We will try to email it to you. If that doesn't work, please contact your camp -- only your camp can authorize a new PoolPass®. Your camp controls the distribution of PoolPasses® - this helps camper families be sure that your fellow campers are, in fact, fellow campers. Send an email to your camp - they can easily get you a new PoolPass® and you can be using it right away.
How will I know if I have a ride-sharing opportunity?
We will tell you once a week via email. Once each week, CarPool2Camp.org will crawl its entire data base of campers seeking to match campers who live near each other, and who are going to the same camp on the same day. When a good match is found, we send you a short text email message with a convenient clickable link. You can come to this web site, put in your PoolPass® and see. You can also check for yourself any time here: Find my fellow campers!
How do I know my personal information is safe?
The only camper information we put on this site is the information you give us. The only place we put your information is on this web site. The only site visitors who can see your information are those who are going to the same camp. Search engines cannot index the site (they have no PoolPass® that matches yours). And you can opt-out at any time. CarPool2Camp.org establishes ride-sharing opportunities under these criteria:
- You are going to the same camp
- You are going on the same day
- You live near each other
- You choose to participate in your camp's ride-sharing program
How do we know this program will work for our campers?
You can test it free of charge or obligation. First, register your camp. Then visit this page and send yourself a PoolPass® and also send a PoolPass® to an office mate or two. You can see exactly what your campers will experience when you invite them into the program.
Will this work with just ZIP codes?
Yes, but it will be much more accurate in matching ride-sharing candidates if we have street addresses, or if campers verify their location on the map. It only takes a moment to get better accuracy.
Is a PoolPass® Needed for Every Camper?
Yes. A camp's success with this program depends on creating the largest possible network of ride-sharing opportunities.
Can my camp print PoolPass® cards?
Yes. We recommend Avery Matte White Postcards #3380 or equivalent card stock.
Can I integrate this into my camp's web site
Yes, there is an API. You can read more here: API Documentation
This is amazing! Who is paying for this?
CarPool2Camp.org is supported through donations, with a modest additional revenue stream from online advertising.
Is the PoolPass® concept protected?
Yes. This web site, including all its contents and functionality, is copyright © 2007 - 2013. PoolPass® is a registered trademark of CarPool2Camp.org, Inc. A patent application covering the intellectual property has been filed covering the process, programming and business models, which are patent-pending under classification 705/50 Data Processing Business Practices.
